Bawumia Unveils Major Milestone in Ghana's Digital Registration System

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intensifies its preparations for the 2024 elections, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has significantly ramped up his campaign efforts, particularly in the Eastern Region. His recent visit to Asuogyaman marked a pivotal moment in his campaign, where he addressed key issues and highlighted the advancements made under his leadership, with a strong emphasis on digital transformation and economic development.

During his visit, Dr. Bawumia showcased the progress made in Ghana's digital infrastructure, a sector he has been closely associated with throughout his tenure. He particularly focused on the integration of the Ghana Card and birth certificate numbers for all newborns, a move that signifies a major leap towards a more digitized and efficient national identification system.

“If a child is born today, they are issued a Ghana Card and a birth certificate number. We have completed the pilot phase and will now extend our registration efforts to include children as young as six,” Dr. Bawumia announced. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen is accounted for from birth, laying the foundation for a more organized and accessible national database.

Dr. Bawumia’s emphasis on digital infrastructure is part of a broader vision to modernize Ghana’s public services and improve access to essential services for all citizens. By integrating vital records into a unified digital system, the government aims to streamline processes, reduce bureaucratic delays, and enhance the overall efficiency of public administration. This initiative is also expected to play a crucial role in the delivery of social services, as accurate and up-to-date records will make it easier for the government to identify and assist those in need.

Reflecting on his tenure as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence in his ability to achieve even greater results if given the opportunity to lead as President. He pointed out that the accomplishments made so far have been within the constraints of his role as Vice President, implying that the full realization of his vision for Ghana could be better achieved from the presidential seat.

“All the work I have accomplished has been as Vice President. I am confident that as President, I can deliver even more,” Dr. Bawumia stated. This declaration underscores his ambition to build on the foundation laid during his vice presidency, with the goal of propelling Ghana to new heights of development and prosperity.

In addition to his focus on digital infrastructure, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to enhancing national security and advancing key economic initiatives, such as the ‘One District, One Factory’ policy. This initiative has been a cornerstone of the NPP’s economic strategy, aimed at promoting industrialization across Ghana’s districts, creating jobs, and boosting local economies. Dr. Bawumia’s renewed commitment to this initiative signals the party’s ongoing dedication to economic growth and stability as central themes of their campaign.

The Vice President’s visit to Asuogyaman also served as an opportunity to connect with the grassroots, reinforcing the NPP’s commitment to engaging with communities across the country. By addressing local concerns and outlining his vision for the future, Dr. Bawumia aims to galvanize support at the regional level, which is crucial for the NPP’s success in the upcoming elections.

As the NPP gears up for the 2024 elections, Dr. Bawumia’s campaign in the Eastern Region, particularly in Asuogyaman, highlights the party’s strategy to leverage its achievements in governance, particularly in digital transformation and economic development, to win the confidence and support of the electorate. His focus on digital infrastructure, national security, and economic initiatives reflects a comprehensive approach to governance, aimed at addressing the needs of Ghanaians while positioning the country for future growth and stability.

Dr. Bawumia’s campaign efforts in the Eastern Region are a clear indication of the NPP’s readiness to present a forward-looking agenda to the Ghanaian people. By emphasizing the successes achieved under his leadership as Vice President and outlining a vision for continued progress, Dr. Bawumia is positioning himself as a candidate capable of delivering on the promises of digital innovation, economic development, and national security.
